Cookie policy
Two cookies, no tracking
There is no advertising here, no analytics and nothing following you around the internet.

1What a cookie is
A cookie is a small piece of text a website asks your browser to keep, so the site can recognise your browser the next time it hears from it. This site uses two, and both exist to make the portal work rather than to learn anything about you.
2The two cookies
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
| cob_session | Keeps you logged in. It holds a signed token with your account identifier and your role, nothing else. Without it you would have to type your password on every page. | 30 days, or until you log out |
| cob_voter | A random identifier so the People's Choice gallery can tell whether this browser has already voted for an artwork. It is not linked to any account and says nothing about who you are. | 1 year |
Both are HTTP only, which means scripts running in the page cannot read them, and both are sent only over an encrypted connection in production.
3Why there is no cookie banner
Consent banners exist for cookies that are not necessary, chiefly advertising and analytics. This site sets neither. Both cookies here are strictly necessary: one logs you in, the other keeps the vote honest. Asking permission for cookies you cannot refuse without breaking the site would be theatre, so there is no banner.
4What this site does not do
- no Google Analytics or any other analytics
- no advertising or advertising networks
- no social media tracking pixels
- no profiling and no selling of data
- no cookies shared with anyone else
Photographs on the public pages load from Unsplash and from Supabase, our storage provider. Those requests reveal your network address to them, as any image request does, but they set no cookies through this site.
5Turning them off
Any browser can block or delete cookies in its settings. If you block them here you will not be able to log in, and the gallery will not be able to tell that you have already voted.
6Other storage
This site does not use local storage, session storage or fingerprinting to identify you. When you upload a photograph your browser resizes it before sending, which happens entirely in memory on your own device.

If analytics or any embedded third party content is ever added to this site, this page must be updated and a consent banner will be needed.
